Origami House

The clients’ brief led us to deliberately juxtapose a clean-edged modern interpretation with the surrounding post-war housing stock. From the outset, we were inspired to maintain a single-storey presence to the street, allowing the design to connect respectfully with the predominantly single-storey character of the neighbourhood.
Aluminium Cladding was selected along one side of the home to create a striking contrast against the soft, landscaped front garden, while a timber-clad garage door introduces warmth and softens the driveway edge. This balance of boldness and natural texture reinforces the architectural story from arrival through to entry.
A central double-height volume was introduced to draw northern sunlight deep into the heart of the home, enhancing comfort and energy efficiency. These varying ceiling heights create a dynamic visual journey, allowing the eye to appreciate the changing volumes, light quality, and overall ambience.
